Payments

Setting up online payments

Connect your band to Stripe so members can pay for events, trips and the Band Bus by card, with the money passed straight on to your band.

How online payments work

When a member pays by card, the payment is processed securely by PipeBandHQ using Stripe. Stripe's card processing fee is taken off, and the rest is transferred to your band's own Stripe account, which then pays it into your bank account.

PipeBandHQ does not add a fee

You only pay Stripe's card processing fee. PipeBandHQ does not take an extra charge on member payments.

Step 1

Open your organisation settings

As an organisation administrator, open your organisation's Settings page on the website and find the Stripe section. In the app, open Organisation settings and find Member payments.

Step 2

Start Stripe setup

Choose Connect Stripe on the website, or Set up Stripe payments in the app. Stripe will ask for details about your band and the person responsible for it, and for the bank account payments should be paid into.

Step 3

Complete Stripe's checks

Stripe is required by law to verify who it is paying money to. Have photo ID and your band's bank details ready. Informal bands and clubs that are not companies can still register.

Step 4

Wait for Ready

Verification is often quick but can take a few days. Until Stripe has finished, your settings show Payments and Payouts as not enabled. Once both are enabled, the website shows Stripe payments are ready and the app shows Ready, and members can pay online.

Card fees

Stripe charges a fee on every card payment. It is taken off before the money reaches your band. Typical UK rates are shown below; check Stripe's pricing page for current rates.

Standard UK cards

1.5% + 20p. A £20 payment costs about 50p, and your band receives about £19.50.

Premium UK cards

1.9% + 20p, for some business and reward cards.

European cards

2.5% + 20p.

International cards

3.25% + 20p.

Members are always credited in full

If a member pays £20, their booking shows £20 paid. The card fee is a cost to the band and is never added to what the member owes. UK law does not allow card surcharges on consumers, so if you want to cover the fee, build it into your prices.

If Stripe setup gets stuck

Choose Continue Stripe setup in your settings to pick up where you left off.

Check the email address you used for any messages from Stripe asking for more information.

Make sure the bank account details match the name you gave Stripe.

If a setup link has expired, start again from your settings. Nothing you have already entered is lost.

Using PipeBandHQ without Stripe

Online payments are optional. If your band prefers cash or bank transfer, you can still record those payments in PipeBandHQ so everyone's balance stays up to date. See Finance, refunds & cash payments.
