Administrators

Roles & permissions

Learn how PipeBandHQ permissions work and how to control which committee members can manage different areas of your organisation.

Give people the right level of access

PipeBandHQ lets organisations control what committee members can see and manage. This means someone can help manage one area without needing full access to everything.

Use the least access needed

If someone only needs to manage events, they should not automatically need access to finance, member details or organisation settings.

Step 1

Decide what each person needs to manage

Think about each committee member's responsibilities before giving them additional access.

Step 2

Assign only the permissions they need

Give access to the specific areas a committee member is responsible for instead of automatically giving full organisation control.

Step 3

Review sensitive permissions carefully

Take extra care with permissions that allow access to private member details, finance or organisation settings.

Step 4

Update permissions when roles change

If someone changes committee role or leaves the committee, update their permissions so their access remains appropriate.

Examples of permission areas

PipeBandHQ can separate access across different areas of your organisation.

Members

Manage members, approve membership requests and maintain organisation membership.

Events & rehearsals

Create and manage events, rehearsals and calendar information.

Music & documents

Manage files available to members of the organisation.

Finance

View or manage financial areas where appropriate.

Bands

Manage individual bands within a multi-band organisation.

Organisation settings

Control higher-level organisation configuration and administrative settings.

Sensitive information

Some areas contain information that should only be available to people who genuinely need it.

Private member details

Only give access to private member information where it is required for someone's role.

Financial information

Finance permissions should normally be limited to the relevant office bearers or administrators.

Administrators vs committee members

Full organisation access should be reserved for the people responsible for the overall administration of the organisation.

Organisation administrators

Administrators may need broad control over the organisation and should be trusted with higher-level access.

Committee members

Committee members can be given specific permissions based on their responsibilities.

Permission checklist

Give people only the access they need.

Limit access to private member information.

Be careful when assigning finance and organisation settings permissions.

Review access whenever committee roles change.
